JT Thomas Inducted Into Minor League Football News Hall of Fame
James "JT" Thomas, former linebacker of the West Virginia Mountaineers, will be inducted into the Minor League Football News Hall of Fame on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Oasis Resort Hotel &amp; Casino in Mesquite, Nevada.<br><br>Thomas' nomination was reviewed by the MLFN's Board of Directors, and he received notification of his acceptance on July 30.<br><br>"It is truly an honor to be receiving this award," said Thomas. "I owe a big thank you to everyone for supporting me through the years."<br><br>Thomas has used strong leadership skills, tireless work ethic, and passion for the game to become a driving force in the development and promotion of minor league and semi-professional football across the Midwest.<br><br>The story of JT Thomas' football career can be broken into three distinct chapters: player, coach, and executive. Thomas' collegiate career started at Fort Scott Community College (Kansas) in 1992. Following his sophomore season, Thomas transferred to West Virginia University (WVU).<br><br>In two seasons at Fort Scott - both as team captain - Thomas earned two All-Kansas Jayhawk Conference honors at outside linebacker and Defensive Player of the Game in 1992's Valley of the Sun Bowl. At inside linebacker for WVU, Thomas received two Mountaineer Club Awards for on-field excellence, earned two All-Big East team honors, and won Defensive Player of the Game in the 1994 CarQuest Bowl. He also led both teams in tackles each season.<br><br>A successful college career led Thomas to the semi-pro football circuit in 1996 with the Charleston Rockets, where he was able to play with former WVU great Major Harris. Returning to outside linebacker, Thomas led the team in tackles and became a league All-Star as the Rockets finished their 11-game regular season 10-1. Thomas attempted to carry his success from semi-pro ball to the Arena Football League in 1997 with the Albany Firebirds, but sustained a career ending leg injury on the third day of training camp.<br><br>Instead of a helmet and pads, the next step of Thomas' football career featured a headset and clipboard. After a stint as Defensive Coordinator for a championship team of 13-16 year olds, Thomas returned to semi-pro football in 2000 as Head Coach of the West Virginia WHAM! Located in Morgantown, WV, Thomas compiled a .695 winning percentage (41 wins, 18 losses), won three Coach of the Year awards, and coached three league All-Star games in six seasons as WHAM! head coach.<br><br>In 2001, Thomas also led the WHAM! to the Mid-Ohio Football League (MOFL) Championship.<br><br>During the 2003 season, Thomas took over full ownership of the WHAM! When he stepped off the WHAM! sideline in 2005, he decided to shift his focus full-time towards developing the success of semi-professional football and the WHAM! franchise. In the two years since he has stopped coaching, Thomas has held executive positions within the Ohio Valley Football League and the MOFL. In January of 2007, Thomas was promoted to MOFL Commissioner.<br><br>Currently, Thomas oversees the day-to-day operations of the MOFL - an expanding, 10-team semi-pro league across Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky. His love for semi-professional football is matched only by his desire to see the MOFL - and every minor league football organization - produce a football product that is competitive, organized, developed, and entertaining for the players in the game and the fans in the stands.<br><br>Thomas also serves as a Semi-Professional Sports Consultant with League Level, LLC, a company that provides marketing and promotional strategies for organizations with an emphasis in amateur and semi-professional athletics.<br><br>He currently resides in Morgantown, WV, with his wife Rochelle and two children, Jared, 3, and AJ, 10 months. Thomas also has son, JT Thomas III, from a previous relationship.<br>

Winding Down the 2014 College Football Season

Even though it feels like it just started, the hectic 2014 college football season is winding down.

Although we've yet to see how the new college football playoff will work out, it's certainly been a welcome sight to see teams scrapping for any of the top four spots rather than just taking the top two. In contention for the playoff we see a lot of familiar faces, but we have a couple new risers, too.

However, if you're looking to place some fresh wagers it's wise to check the new odds on who will go home with the National Title, because they do not follow the conventional ordering of the rankings.

Unsurprisingly, sports betting sites for Alabama residents and for those in other states have the Alabama Crimson Tide listed as the current favorite to win the championship game with odds of 7/2 even though they are behind Mississippi State in both the coach's and AP poll. Mississippi State's odds are listed at 15/2, putting them behind not only the Tide but Oregon (4/1,) Florida State (7/1,) and TCU (7/1.)

Clearly, the oddsmakers have a good idea of who they think will be winning the upcoming critical match up between the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide this weekend. Bama enters the match as the favorite, but it should be a tough game. Clearly, the winner should have a clear path to the playoff whereas the loser will most likely be on the outside looking in.

Oregon, Florida State and TCU round out the top four in odds mainly based on the virtue of an easy schedule for the rest of the year. It's worth noting that although Florida State is the only other undefeated power 5 team along with Mississippi State, they enter this weekend's match up against unranked Miami favored by only two points. Obviously, a loss there could have a disastrous effect on both their ranking and odds to win the Championship.

Also of note is the buoyant Arizona State Sun Devils. ASU isn't usually being talked about at this point in the year, but after their convincing win against Notre Dame their odds of winning it all are now listed at 16/1, and they have a very real shot at the playoff this year if just they can just get a couple lucky results in games beyond their control.

Although there is just a little time left in the season, there could still be some potential shakeups before bowl season. Auburn, now longshots at 33/1 after a gut wrenching loss to Texas A&M last week goes to ranked Georgia for a late top 20 game. Georgia's odds at the championship are currently listed at 25/1, but the results of this game could shake things up some.

As the 2014 season moves further from our present and into the history books, there are still several exciting games to play, rankings to shake up, and of course, plenty of opportunities to play some really interesting bets.

Hopes and Expectations for the 2014 NCAA Season
Hopes and Expectations for the 2014 NCAA Season

American college football is hugely popular amongst students and sports enthusiasts throughout the USA and the rest of the world. From what was originally an offshoot of the English public school preference for the game of rugby, the sport has grown in to a worldwide phenomenon.

One of the traditional giants of North American college football is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish team. The intercollegiate football team represents the University of Notre Dame, which is located in Indiana state.

The Fighting Irish have been playing competitive matches for over 126 years, which makes them one of the oldest teams in America. As well as being one the most prestigious outfits, the Fighting Irish are historically one of the most successful National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) squads, with 13 national championships under their belts.

The home ground of the Fighting Irish is the Notre Dame Stadium. With a seating capacity exceeding 80,000, the arena looms like a huge bowl from the south east side of the university campus. To put this in to global perspective, such a capacity is in excess of Old Trafford, home of English Premier League giants Manchester United.

When the Irish walk out on to home turf against their biggest rivals from the University of South California (USC), or for a more local derby against Michigan State, the famous old sporting cathedral almost groans under both the weight of the hordes of Fighting Irish fans, but also under the burden of posterity that such a rich legacy has bequeathed upon all concerned.

Hopes have been raised for the 2014 season, which is due to begin in August, following the Irish’s 9-4 win ratio during the 2013 regular season. The campaign included impressive wins against bitter rivals USC and Michigan. They also went on to overcome the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 29-16 in the Pinstripe Bowl.

In view of that, the Irish will be hoping to achieve at least ten victories going forward in to 2014. Much will depend on how long it takes for the youthful and raw fledgling Irish players to mature and gel in to a cohesive unit. Nevertheless, the bookies are still offering generous odds on the Irish for the forthcoming season. You can check the latest odds and place a bet at william hill so as to get the best early season prices and to see if the Irish can live up to their potential.

Pac-12 South Preview (Part 1)
Now, it's time to preview the Pac-12 South. I've already previewed the Pac-12 North so if you want to check that out you can. But, as I mentioned in the Pac-12 North (Part 1) post, the Pac-12 is a really strong conference from top to bottom.

The teams at the top are Stanford and Oregon who are two of the best teams in the nation. USC has a lot of talent. Arizona State, Arizona, Washington, and UCLA are teams that are right there just itching to break out and be a top contender. Utah is a solid team and then you have Washington State and Cal who are rebuilding and are just a couple of years from being bowl contenders....and then you have Colorado. With all that said, it's time to preview the south.

Arizona: Last year was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Arizona. Instead, Arizona came out guns blazing. The Wildcats started the year 3-0, including an upset over #18 Oklahoma State. But, then the wheels fell off a bit as the Oregon Ducks obliterated the Wildcats 49-0, Oregon State beat them, and they came up short versus the Stanford Cardinal in overtime. But, they bounced back destroying the Washington Huskies 52-17 and ended up upsetting the turnover happy #10 ranked Trojans 39-36.

Arizona ended up finishing 2-2, including a loss to their rival Arizona State Sun Devils. The season capped off with an exciting, thrilling come-from-behind victory over Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl to give them a nice boost heading into the offseason.

Arizona's defense was bad in 2012. The good news is that ten of their defensive starters return this year. So, that has to be a good thing, right? I would think so. Offensively, the Wildcats might struggle a bit. Arizona lost their senior quarterback, Matt Scott, and during camp their star wide receiver Austin Hill got hurt and will miss quite a bit of the season. The Wildcats are very thin at wide receiver and have to rely on a new quarterback.

Luckily, for the Wildcats, is that Rich Rodriguez' system works. It's a system in which you can plug in players and they perform well. So, while things look bleak for Arizona on paper, at the moment on the offensive side, things might not be too bad. Plus, Arizona still has their star halfback in Ka'Deem Carey.

All in all, I think eight wins for Arizona isn't really much of a stretch. While their team might not be as good this year, their schedule is easy. Arizona definitely got the luck of the draw. While it starts off a bit rough having to go on the road to Washington and Southern Cal, they then play Utah, Colorado, and Cal. Plus, they get the Bruins and the Ducks at home.

Arizona State: Arizona State has a really good chance to make some noise this year. I'm surprised at how a lot of people aren't really giving much thought to Arizona state. Oddsmakers have them 4th (granted oddsmakers aren't giving their prediction, they are just trying to stay ahead of the public and generate the most amount of money) to win the Pac-12 South and other analysts in the college football field are predicting Arizona State to finish in the middle of the pack in the Pac-12, and basically 6th or 7th in the Pac-12 as a whole.

I really like the Sun Devils this year. I love their value, but I also like their chances to really have a legitimate chance to win the Pac-12 South this year. The Sun Devils have most of their team from last year coming back (14 starters to be exact) and their schedule is very favorable. Just about all their notable tough games will be played at home. USC, Washington, Oregon State, and Arizona all come to Sun Devil Stadium. All of this points to Arizona State having a great shot of winning the Pac-12 South.

Colorado: Things hit rock bottom for Colorado last season. In fact, the past two years under Jon Embree were an epic fail. Plain and simple. Colorado was an absolute embarrassment last year and it's going to take awhile before they are actually relevant again. The Buffaloes are back on the right track after hiring Mike MacIntyre.

There's not a whole lot to say about the Buffaloes. You can chalk it up that they will finish last. The best case scenario for Colorado is to open up the season by beating Colorado State, Central Arkansas, and maybe getting wins over California, and maybe a road victory over Utah. That would be a dream season and a reason to bust out the champagne.

Other than that, if I'm in Boulder, just enjoy the games at home. Teams like Fresno State, Oregon, Arizona, and USC will be making the trek on out to Boulder, Colorado. Have some fun and just enjoy taking in the moment of watching some live football.

This concludes part one of previewing the Pac-12 South. Part two will be USC, UCLA, Utah, and a little prediction of how I think the teams will finish.

Pac-12 North Preview (Part 2)
Now, we get into part two of previewing the Pac-12 North. Let's finish up the rest of the division.

Stanford: Stanford should be the favorite to win the Pac-12. Stanford really doesn't have a weakness. Their lines on both sides of the ball is a big reason why they should have success this season. They should be able to control the trenches for every game. Just that grind-you-down type football should be enough for them to win the North and possibly the Pac-12. Not only that, but their schedule is very favorable. Just about all their tough games are at home. At home they will be getting Arizona State, Washington, UCLA, Oregon, and you can throw in the rival Cal and Notre Dame to end the season.

The only road block for them is traveling to Oregon State and to Southern California. Other than that it's home sailing for the Cardinal.

Washington: I like the program Steve Sarkisian is building up their in Washington. He's recruited well and now with all that talent Washington is on the verge of doing something special. This year looks to be the year Washington finally breaks out and has a great season and wins the Pac-12 North and even the Pac-12 Conference. It all looks like it's coming to coming together. They have their Quarterback in Keith Price that can lead them to some big wins which he has done in his career. The Huskies have a running game in Bishop Sankey and may even get some help from Jesse Callier. On the defensive side of the ball they have the talent their as well. Josh Shirley, and Andrew Hudson could have really big seasons on the defensive line. John Timu is the man at linebacker and Sean Parker is the leader in the secondary.

It all looks good for Washington and again, I like Washington this year. There is no doubt that they have a good program and they have the talent to win the Pac-12. All you have to do is go back to last year when they upset Stanford and Oregon State. They just have to be more consistent and we will see if that happens, but most importantly and unfortunately, for Washington, they have a brutal schedule. It is definitely not an easy schedule and if they do somehow make it through relatively unscathed they will have earned all the accolades that come their way.

From September 28th to October 19th Washington plays Arizona at home, at Stanford, back at home to play Oregon, and they travel to Tempe to play Arizona State. That schedule doesn't let up. For a four week stretch you would be hard pressed to find another team that has a harder schedule then that. Plus, their last three games of the season they got to Pasadena to play UCLA, they go to Oregon State, and they play Washington State, which should be a win, but you never know with these rivalry games. And then just to throw the cherry on top they open up at home versus Boise State. That isn't easy at all. Again, I like Washington, but with that schedule I don't see how they win the Pac-12 North.

Washington State: This is year two under Mike Leach and the Cougars are looking to build upon last year. Last year, I guess was somewhat disappointing. They won three games last year, but the killer was losing to Colorado. They lost to Colorado and everything went down the drain. They couldn't bounce back until the final game of the season when they played rival Washington in the Apple Cup. Washington State were able to muster one finale and they ended up spoiling Washington's season a little bit.

Washington State has some talent, they have some decent players, some depth and they were able to show that off in spots last year. Make no mistake, though, the expectations should be very low. If they Cougars go 4-8, it's a successful year. They are still in a rebuilding process, but they are getting closer to having a respectable program again. Another year with Mike Leach and next year they may end up having a chance at going to a bowl game.

When looking at the Pac-12 North as a whole I really don't expect much change from last year. Last year, Stanford won the North finishing with an 8-1 record in the conference. Oregon finished second with an 8-1 record as well, but lost the tie breaker to Stanford. Oregon State was third at 6-3, Washington forth at 5-4, Cal fifth, and Washington State bringing up the rear at 1-8.

In 2013, I really don't think it's going to be much different. If I had to make a prediction I'd say Stanford wins the North, maybe going undefeated, I don't know, that's a tough ask. I think they'll lose somewhere along the way. I think Oregon will finish second. Oregon State and Washington may flip flop. It all depends on how Washington does with that tough schedule they have. Washington is the better team, but they have a much, much tough schedule. And then I think Cal and Washington State will finish 5th and 6th respectively. So, really, I do think the standings in 2013 will be very similar to the standings in 2012.

We'll see how it all plays out though. A lot of really good teams. Maybe Cal or Washington State breaks through earlier than expected. Maybe Washington plays consistently at a high level, and maybe Oregon's defense just never gets it together. It'll be fun to see it all play out during the season.
